The Principality of Freedonia is a new country project. Our goal is the creation of a new, sovereign nation. We do so in order to create a country based on the political philosophy of libertarianism.

    For those unfamiliar with libertarianism, in short it means that every person is free to live their lives in any manner they wish, so long as they do not cause direct harm against person or property. Accordingly, the role of government is solely to provide for the national defense, to institute systems of justice, and to address small diplomatic functions. The government exists to protect the rights and freedom of the populace.
  Freedonia also institutes a unique form of constitutional monarchy, designed to ensure the preservation of liberty and guard against the inherent nature of governments to grow in size and control. Details on our system of government can be found in our constitution.

   All over the world, governments are corrupt, bureaucratic, and oppressive. In some cases, the oppression comes from the rulers themselves, or in more democratically minded states, from the tyranny of the majority.
  The United States serves as a good example, as it is widely thought of as a nation of freedom and liberty. It may have been founded on liberty, yet today, thousands of laws and regulations restrict and criminalize peaceful actions of individuals and businesses, and confiscatory taxes consume 49% of the national income.

   We are searching for a location where we can establish this new nation of liberty. In order to do so, we are looking into several locations where we may be able to employ purchased sovereignty. Under this arrangement, an existing nation cedes an area of land, including sovereignty, in order to receive some benefit, such as the regional economic prosperity a libertarian nation would provide, or other means of compensation.
